133,978 cases, 1,695 deaths

In the daily update of coronavirus, the health department on Saturday confirmed 3,504 new cases, 34 deaths and 1,183 recoveries from the pandemic virus.

With that, the number of total cases surged to 133,978 in Bangladesh - 1,695 died and 54,318 recovered so far.
The recovery rate was 40.54 percent while death rate was 1.27 percent and infection rate among the total tested samples was 18.81 percent.

Additional director general for health Prof Nasima Sultana updating the tally said they had tested 712,098 samples as of Saturday since the beginning of the outbreak in Bangladesh on March 8. In the last 24 hours till 8am of Saturday, 15,157 samples were tested at 58 authorised laboratories across Bangladesh.

Most of the patients are taking treatment staying at home.
Only 4,225 general beds and 112 ICU beds are currently occupied by the Covid19 patients against 4,293 beds in Dhaka metropolitan and 12,073 outside.

There are only 79 ICU beds for Covid-19 in Dhaka and 275 outside the capital.
Prof Nasima said they have enough oxygen supply facilities. There are 11,445 oxygen cylinders available across Bangladesh, she said.
Among the latest 34 deaths, 32 were men and two were women.
Thirty patients died in different hospitals and four at their respective homes.
Thirteen were from Dhaka division while 10 were from Chattogram, four each from Rahshahi and Sylhet, two from Rajshahi and one from Khulna.

About the quarantine and isolation of the people presumed to have Covid-19, Prof Nasima said 63,913 people are now quarantined across Bangladesh – including 2,312 newly-quarantined individuals.

A total of 291,268 people have completed their quarantine course so far.
The authorities placed 726 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 14,267 after 9,826 left.

The government has divided the country into three zones – red, yellow and green – based on the density of the coronavirus patients.
The additional director general explained the implementation process of zoning system to prevent the disease and said a 13-member advisory committee is working to determine zoning maps.

“This is continuous process… No areas will remain under specific zoning maps permanently,” she said.
She also urged people to abide by health rules to protect themselves from the infection of the deadly virus.
Those include wearing mask, maintaining physical distancing and washing hands by soap.
