Covid-19 in Bangladesh

132,960 recover so far

Bangladesh on Thursday registered 2,695 new cases of coronavirus, 48 deaths and 2,668 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

During the period, 12,937 samples had been tested in 82 authorised laboratories, additional director general for health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the daily bulletin.

 With that, the number of cases stood at 234,889, deaths 3,083 and recoveries 132,960.

Bangladesh first confirmed the disease in three persons on March 8, and the first death on March 18. The World Health Organisation declared the virus pandemic on March 11.

 Of the latest victims, 36 were men and 12 were women - 41 of them died in different hospitals and seven at their respective homes.

 Moreover, 17 of them were hailed from Dhaka, 12 from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, five each from Khulna and Sylhet, and two each from Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh divisions.

 Currently, 57,425 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,453 newly-quarantined individuals. The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities.

 In the last 24 hours, 635 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 have been placed into isolation, bringing the total to 18,568.

 So far, 56.61 percent of the total patients in Bangladesh have recovered, while 1.31 percent died.
