13 deaths in a day

706 new virus cases reported

The number of coronavirus cases is rising every day in Bangladesh and has already crossed the 12,000 mark. The government on Thursday confirmed 706 new cases of infection testing 5,867 samples in 34 labs in the last 24 hours and 13 deaths.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 199 and the number of total infections stood at 12,425. 

Some 130 patients cured in last 24 hours, increasing number of total recovered patients to 1910, Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the virtual briefing, amending the Wednesday’s recovery figure.

Of the deceased, eight are male and five female. She said 40,503 people are in quarantined across Bangladesh now – including 2,967 newly-quarantined individuals. 

A total of 163,528 people have completed their time under quarantine.  She said the authorities placed 107 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 1,771 after 950 left.

 She said they have the capable of accommodating 3,635 more people at 601 isolation wards and 30,955 people at quarantine facilities.

 As many as 4,247,367 hotline services were given by 15,653 trained doctors via three designated numbers, including 143,422 in last 24-hour till 8am today. 

 Till date, a total of 680,312 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 54 at airports, 157 at seaports and 200 at land ports in the last 24 hours.

 Personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,061,890 by far, of which 1,614,884 were distributed and 447,006 are left in store.

 The virus has killed 265,238 people globally and infected 3,834,038 so far.

 Bangladesh first confirmed the cases on March 8 and death on March 18. The World Health Organisation declared the virus pandemic on March 11.
