At least 13 activists of the Ganantrik Chhatra Shakti, an organisation which maintains a strong relation with the radical student body Shibir, are still leading the quota reform movement to create further unrest in the country.

Of them, nine activists are working as coordinators and four as co-coordinators of the movement despite the government’s issuance of a gazette notification, bringing an amendment to the quota system in government jobs.

The coordinators have been identified as Nahid Islam, member secretary of Chhtra Shakti’s central committee, Nusrat Tabassum, Rafia Rehnuma Hridi and Abdullah Al Galib as joint member secretary, Sohag Mia, member of central body, Asif Mahmud, convener of Dhaka University unit, Abdul Kader, joint convener, Abu Baker Majumder, member secretary of DU unit and Abdul Hannan Masud as joint member secretary of DU unit. The co-coordinators have been identified as Rifat Rashid, Hasib Al Islam and Abdullah Saleheen Ayon and Nishita Zaman Niha are members of the DU unit of Chhtra Shakti.

Sources say they have been trying to create unrest in the country through provocative statements.

Akhtar Hossain, the former social service affairs secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union, announced the name of Chhatra Shakti at a press conference at DUCSU Bhaban on October 4 last year.

Akhtar, who was the president of Chhatra Odhikhar Parishad, founded by DUCSU former VP Nurul Haque Nur, was arrested last week in a case filed on charge of obstructing police in performing duties.

Later, a Dhaka court placed Akhter on a 2-day remand in a case filed on charge of obstructing police in performing duties.
