13 brickfields demolished in Jashore, 180 others in list

The Department of Environment (DoE) has demolished 13 illegal brickfields in Jashore district. The brickfields were removed in a raid at Manirampur and Bagharpara upazilas of the district led by Magistrate Rozina Akter of DoE.

The campaign to demolish illegal brickfields in Jashore started from Sunday. On the first day, five brickfields were demolished.

In all, 13 brickfields were evicted in two days and six were fined Tk. 22 lakh. The operation will remove about 180 illegal brickfields in Jashore district, sources said. 

Saeed Anwar, deputy director of the DoE in Jashore, said that a drive has been launched in Jashore district under the leadership of Rozina Akter to remove all the illegal brickfields.

Messrs. Sonali Bricks, Messrs. Sharif Bricks, Messrs. Bold Bricks have been completely demolished at Manirampur upazila. Besides, Messrs. Bond Bricks has been fined Tk 7 lakh, Messrs. Sohag Bricks -1 and Sohag Bricks-2 have been fined TK. 3 lakh each and Messrs. Moon Bricks has been fined Tk. 2 lakh.

Meanwhile, Messrs. Biswas Bricks was demolished from Khajura in Bagharpara upazila on Monday afternoon. In addition, Messrs. Lion Bricks were removed  and fined TK. 4 lakhs, Messrs. Lashkar Bricks TK. 2 lakhs and Sheikh Bricks TK. 1 lakh.

Saeed Anwar said that that these brick kilns do not have licenses and clearances from the Department of Environment. That is why this action is being taken through the mobile court.
