12 Indian fishermen arrested by BCG

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested 12 Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler for illegally fishing inside the Bangladesh territory of the Bay of Bengal, says press release issued by BCG. 

The detainees are residents of Dakkhin Chabbis Pargana of India.

Citing coast guard members, Officer-in-Charge of Mongla Bazar Police Station Md Iqbal Bahar Choudhury said, “A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested them from the Fairway Buoy area of the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.”

He said, “The arrestees were handed over to the Mongla Bazar Police Station on Saturday noon and a case was filed against them under section 22 of the Marine Fisheries Ordinance, 1983.” The Indian fishermen would be sent to the Bagerhat District Jail on Sunday, the OC added.
