Today (Monday) is the 11th Death Anniversary of Begum Fawzia Samad, wife of Late M. A. Samad, a renowned insurance legend and the founder of Bangladesh General Insurance Company Ltd.
Late Begum Fawzia Samad had been a talented lady who devoted her whole life to the cause of the women-folk of the country serving in different capacities which include President ship of Dhaka Ladies Club for long 38 years and even till her death. She also played a vital role in establishing Bangladesh General Insurance Co. Ltd, (BGIC) from the very beginning from behind, for which the BGIC family will always remember her contribution with deep sense of gratitude.
As far back as in 1949 Fawzia Samad along with her litterateur husband, M. A. Samad founded , edited and run a magazine named MINAR for the children and youth of the country. Later on, this publication was collected and published in Book-Form titled ‘Minar Samagra’.with all its prominence. This publication contributed much to our Bengali literature and language movement of 1952, inspiring the speed of tasks whatsoever. She was born in a respectable Muslim family of Sylhet in 1929 & breathed her last on 25th April 2011 in a hospital at Singapore. She was the mother of Towhid Samad, Chairman of BGIC, Fancy Samad, Tamju Samad, & Sabrina Samad.
