The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) will distribute seeds and fertilizers free of cost as agricultural incentives among 11,570 small and marginal farmers during the current season in the five upazilas of Gopalganj district.
Deputy Director of the DAE Dr Arvind Kumar Roy said the incentives, in terms of seeds and fertilisers, will be distributed among the beneficiary farmers to assist them in cultivating nine varieties of crops during the current season.
Seeds and fertilizers worth Taka 1, 16, 18,400 will be distributed among 11,750 small and marginal farmers under the agricultural incentive and rehabilitation programme in the current season with a view to increasing the production of wheat, maize, mustard, sunflower, kesari dal, lentil, onion, groundnut and mung dal, he said. According to the DAE office, a total of 83,320-kg of seeds, 1,20,200-kg of DAP fertilizers, 1,40,950-kg of MOP fertilizers will be distributed free of cost among the 11,750 farmers of the district.
Among them, 2,670 farmers in Sadar upazila, 2,460 farmers in Muksudpur upazila, 2, 270 farmers in Kashiani upazila, 1,940 farmers in Kotalipara upazila and 2,230 farmers in Tungipara upazila will get the agricultural incentives. The seeds and fertilizer will be distributed through Upazila Agriculture Office.
The agriculture incentive programme of the government plays a special role for the small and marginal farmers of the district to cultivate nine varieties of crops in advance, said Deputy Director of the DAE Dr Arvind Kumar Roy.
