104 gold bars recovered in Jashore in 17 days

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a total of 104 gold bars from different places in Jashore during the last 17 days. The estimated value of the gold is about eight crore taka.

BGB members raided the municipal park area of Jashore town on Monday and arrested Imadul Hossain, 26, son of Aslam Hossain of North Kagajpukur village under Benapole Port police station. BGB men also recovered 20 gold bars from him which estimated value is one crore 63 lakh 38 thousand taka. 

49 BGB Battalion Commanding officer Lt. Colonel Md. Selim Reza said that BGB members arrested a youth in front of Jashore Municipal Park on Monday on the basis of secret information. After the arrest, the body was searched and recovered 20 gold bars from them. The weight of 20 bars is 2 kg 334 grams. 

A gang from Benapole came to Jashore and smuggled gold bars across the border to India. Emadul came to Jashore to collect gold bars and take it to Benapole. 

Lt. Colonel Md. Selim Reza further said that BGB has recovered 104 gold bars from Jashore bordering area in the last 17 days. On December 4, 60 gold bars worth about Tk 4 crore 89 lakh 30 thousand were recovered from Shahjadpur bordering area in Chaugacha upazila. 

Besides, BGB arrested a smuggler along with 24 gold bars weighing 2 kg from a passenger bus at Amrakhali checkpost area in Benapole on December 15 afternoon. The estimated value of the recovered bar is one crore 39 lakh 80 thousand taka. In all, the value of the 104 gold bars is 7 crore 92 lakh 48 thousand taka.
