Amid the current pandemic period, government’s wide ranging objectives are helping to improve access to safe and nutritious food for all citizens. In this crisis time, prudent measures taken by the government thwarted any kind of food crisis in Bangladesh.
According to a report published in this daily on Tuesday, government launched a ten-year action plan for achieving the objectives of the National Food and Nutrition Security Policy (NFNSP). The plan is to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) associated with food and nutrition security and fulfill national and international commitments.
Our goal should be to find sustainable food
production method for farmers, while
safeguarding safe food for consumers
We know, Bangladesh faces considerable food and nutrition security challenges for its current population of around 160 million, which is projected to reach more than 186 million by 2030. Now in a bid to tackle it, the government must take the required measurers.
Our government has consistently reiterated that no one in the country will suffer from starvation. Even after such dire effects of the pandemic, we have been able to avert any food crisis successfully.
Now what we have to make sure that the farmers are able to produce products on a uniform scale. Bulk production is another crucial necessity, which under the existing system of our farming production cannot be safeguarded for a longer term. Our goal should be to build sustainable food production methods for farmers, while safeguarding safe food for consumers.
