Police arrested 10 robbers along with 43 tolas of stolen gold, 2.5 kg silver and Tk1.5 lakh over the looting of two jewellery shops in Gazipur on Sunday.
The arrestees are Monir Molla alias Akubbar Hossain 38, Alamgir Hossain alias Alam 40, Md Ranu Sheikh 38, Md Saidur Sardar 44, Badshah Pramanik 38, Najmul, 26, Sanjay Sarkar 40, Md Sujon 24, Summa Khatun 32, and Bibek Paul 42.
Shamsunnahar, superintendent of Gazipur police, said Debendra Karmakar 49, owner of New Dipa Jewellers was injured when criminals opened fire and exploded bombs while looting his shop and another one at Joina Bazar in Sreepur upazila on November 16.
Examining the CCTV footage, police conducted separates drives in Sirajganj, Pabna, Rajbari, Madaripur, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Dhaka districts and arrested them along with the looted ornaments.
Police also recovered seven crude bombs, one sharp weapon and a motorcycle from their possession, the SP said.
Of the arrestees, Sanjay Sarkar and Bibek Paul are gold traders while Alamgir is a clothes trader. Alamgir and his wife Suma visited the jewellery shops in Gazipur.
