After a prolonged wait and sufferings of corona virus infected patients 10 Intensive Care Unit beds reached at Khanpur 300 bed corona dedicated hospital in Narayanganj on Tuesday.

The Daily Bangladesh Post published an exclusive report on scarcity of ICU beds in Khanpur hospital on June 22 titled ‘N’ganj patients suffer for lack of ICU bed’.

Dr. Goutom Roy, Superintendent of Khanpur hospital informed the media that previously oxygen, a ventilator, monitor was available but due to lack of ICU bed and some other medical equipment we didn’t provide support to the COVID-19 patients. I think it will take at least one more week to run the ICUfacilities, he added.

AKM Shamim Osman, MP from Narayanganj-4 constituency said that I will see where the problems are and why I had to spend too much time bringing ICU beds to Narayanganj. I will chase the thief then I have to hear the alternative voice from the vested authorities.

The Narayanganj dwellers are yet displeased that although the ICU beds have reached the city, the authorities are asking seven more days to run the facility.

Another painful message for the people of Narayanganj is that in the last five days corona testing has stopped there due to shortage of requisite kits.

The ICU bed have reached Khanpur hospital but COVID-19 has already claimed 107 lives in the last 108 days. So, people of Narayanganj don’t have a desire for a treatment in Khanpur hospital.

The hospital stands only on structure externally but the internal facilities are totally damaged doesn't even have doors in the different departments and toilets.

However, some lower staff including a clerk of the hospital have become millionaire in the last 34 years pilfering goods and procurement system and maintaining nepotism with the hospital contractors who supplied food and all necessary equipment to the hospital.

According to the Civil Surgeon’s office 2,471 patients have survived the infection, while 4,726 people have been infected in total including 26 new ones. The total death toll reached at 107 till Tuesday in Narayanganj.
