10 DU students get Sitara Parvin Award

Ten students from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of the University of Dhaka received the Professor Sitara Parvin Award for their outstanding results at the BSS level on Thursday.

The MCJ department arranged a ceremony at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium in the Social Science Building on the DU campus to hand out the awards.

The ceremony was presided over by the chairman of the MCJ Department, Abul Mansur Ahmed, while DU vice-chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman was the chief guest of the event.

Former MCJ department teacher Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali gave a vote of thanks at the function, which was conducted by the department’s teacher Shaonti Haider.

The recipients of the award were – Md Nasimul Huda, SM Shams Rahman, Sumaia Sanjana Nimmi, Nawshin Bithy, Aurthy Noboneeta, Maria Anis Chowdhury, Md Mahfuzul Islam, Neeti Chakma, Sujan Sen Gupta, and Syed Mohammad Rahatul Islam.

The award is named after former Professor of the MCJ Department at DU, Sitara Parvin, who passed away in a road accident in USA on June 23, 2005.

The Professor Sitara Parvin Trust was formed in 2006 with the objective of awarding 10 top-ranking graduate students of MCJ. Since 2007, the Professor Sitara Parvin Award has been awarded accordingly.

In the programme on Thursday, several notable members were present, including members of parliament Asaduzzaman Noor, writer Anisul Haque, and diplomat Nasima Haider among others.
