1 detained with 15 gold bars

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained an alleged smuggler with 15 gold bars weighing 1.75 kg from Putkhali bordering area of Sharsha thana in Jashore on Thursday. 

The arrested was identified as Rana Hamid, 28, son of Abdul Ghaffar of Khalsi village of Sharsha upazila in the district. 21 BGB Battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel Mohammad Manzur-e-Elahi confirmed the matter. 

BGB sources said, on secret information, Khulna 21 BGB Battalion's Putkhali BOP Commander Naib Subedar Md Kamal Hossain with a team of BGB conducted the operation in Panchbhulot area.  They arrested alleged gold smuggler Rana Hamid with an easy bike from Panchbhulot area. After searching his body, a total of 15 gold bars were found in 3 packets. He has long admitted to being involved in smuggling. BGB said the value of the recovered gold was Tk 93 lakh 95 thousand 300. A case was filed with Sharsha thana in this connection.
