1.46 lakh Yaba pills seized

Police in Chattogram arrested three people, including two students, in possession of 1.46 lakh pieces of Yaba pills in Kalabibir Dighi area of the district’s Anwara upazila.

The arrestees are Mahmudul Haque, 23, son of Nurul Haque of Damdamiya Hnila Union of Teknaf Police Station in Cox's Bazar, Mohammad Ibrahim, 26, son of Saleh Ahmed of Lengurbil area of Sadar Union and Jahed Hossain, 25, son of Khalilur Rahman of the same area.

Of them, Mahmudul Haque is a BBA student and Jahed Hossain is a high school student while Ibrahim is a farmer. Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Rashidul Haque briefed the media at the Halishahar District Police Lines on Thursday.

SP Rashidul said, tipped-off, forces from Anwara and Patia police stations conducted a joint operation in the area and nabbed the three with the consignment of contraband tablets.

Two motorcycles and five mobile phones are used for carrying drugs were also seized during the raid.

The SP further said that the trio were peddling the Yaba pills from Teknaf to Chattogram on a contract of Tk 3 lakh. They were another person in them police are trying to arrest him.

Among the detainees, Mahmudul is a third-year BBA student, Jahed Hossain is a high school student of Teknaf Degree College and Ibrahim is a farmer, the SP added.

According to Rashidul, the district police have recovered 3.5 lakh yaba this year so far and the latest was the largest seizure.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Moshiuddaula Reza, Additional Superintendent of Police Jahangir Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB and Media) Mohiuddin Mahmud Sohel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Patia Circle) Tariq Rahman and Officer-in-Charge of Anwara Police Station SM Didarul Islam Sikder were present at the  presse conference.
