Local administration provided food to 1,300 families in Thakurgaon town upon receiving calls at hotline in eight days. The people called from April 6 to April 13.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Thakurgaon Dr KM Kamruzzam told Bangladesh Post that two hotlines have been opened to help people living in the municipality, especially those who feel shy to seek reliefs during this crisis period.
Authorities are taking the relief materials to their home after getting their details through the hotlines, he added.
Thakurgaon district Awami League Secretary General Dipok Kumar Roy praised the initiative. The authorities’ initiative will help to live the people who can’t feel shy to reveal their necessities during the crisis due to social status, Dipok said.
According to local administration sources, so far 453.16 tonnes of rice was distributed and dry foods along with edible oil worth Tk 23.77 lakh has been distributed among 716 families in five upazilas of the districts till Tuesday. Distribution of food reliefs continues across the district.
