1.2 lakh tonnes Indian wheat imported through Darshana railway port

Over 1 lakh 17 thousand 600 metric tonnes of wheat has been imported from India this year through Darshana International Railway Port in Chuadanga. In 7 months from January to July this year, 1 lakh 17 thousand 600 metric tonnes of wheat entered Bangladesh through 2 thousand 58 railway wagons of 49 backs (BCN). Imported wheat has been cleared in different parts of the country including Darshana.

Darshana International Railway Station Master (Supervisor) Mir Liaquat Ali confirmed this.

He said that in January of this year, 26,400 metric tonnes of wheat entered Bangladesh in 462 railway wagons through 11 backs of freight trains. Similarly, 21 thousand 600 metric tonnes in 378 railway wagons through 9 backs in February, 21 thousand 600 metric tonnes in 378 railway wagons through 9 backs in March, 24 thousand metric tonnes in 420 railway wagons through 10 backs in April, 168 metric tonnes in 4 backs in May. 9 thousand 600 metric tonnes in rail wagons, 7 thousand 200 metric tonnes in 126 rail wagons through 3 backs in June and 7 thousand 200 metric tonnes in 126 rail wagons through 3 backs in July entered Bangladesh.

A buyer named Abu Hasan of Mubarak Para in Darshan said that wheat has to be bought at the rate of Tk 48 per kg. 

Common people will benefit if the price of wheat goes down a little more. I wish the government to look into this matter.

Uthli market retail wheat trader. Harez Ali said, due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the top wheat exporting country, the price of wheat has increased in the world market. 

Due to import of wheat from India, the price of wheat will start to decrease very soon.

Darshana International Railway Port Authority and Station Master (Supervisor) Mir Liaquat Ali said that 1 lakh 17 thousand 600 metric tons of wheat entered the country from India this year. Import operations are running normally.
