A total of 1,065 migrants have been released from home quarantine so far and 1,761 are remaining in home quarantine and three others in institutional quarantine now in Rangpur division, reports BSS.
Talking to BSS on Friday, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said 104 expatriate Bangladeshis were quarantined at homes in last 24 hours in all eight districts of the division. “Of them, seven migrants have been home-quarantined in Rangpur, 18 in Panchagarh, 28 in Nilphamari, one in Lalmonirhat, five in Kurigram, 12 each in Thakurgaon and Dinajpur and 21 in Gaibandha districts during the period in the division,” he said.
A total of 2,823 migrants were home-quarantined and three others institutionally quarantined in Rangpur division so far and of them, 1,065 released after expiry of their 14-day quarantine till today in the division. “Currently, 1,761 migrants, including 164 of Rangpur, 350 of Panchagarh, 197 of Nilphamari, 147 of Lalmonirhat, 138 of Kurigram, 190 of Thakurgaon, 385 of Dinajpur and 237 of Gaibandha districts are reaming in home-quarantine,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
Besides, one migrant is remaining at institutional quarantine in the Isolation Unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) and two others are at institutional quarantine in Dinajpur district. “Two COVID-19 patients of Gaibandha were sent recently to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) at Dhaka after they were tested there coronavirus positive,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
The Armed Forces are assisting the civil administrations alongside with comprehensive efforts of authorities concerned in ensuring quarantine of migrants and maintaining social distancing to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in Rangpur division. At the same time, Rangpur City Corporation, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, District Police, upazila administrations and municipalities and voluntary organisations are working to prevent community transmission of coronavirus in the division.
The activities include distribution of awareness raising leaflets, masks, spraying antibiotics on the streets, roads, market and public places, washing hands with shops and cleanliness campaign to prevent community transmission of COVID-19. Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said 10 beds have been ready at the Isolation Unit of RMCH and three to four beds at every upazila headquarters for isolation of COVID-19 patients, if required.
Rangpur Shishu Hospital, Haragachh Hospital, Tazhat Chest Disease Hospital, Primary Teachers Training Institute and other facilities of Rangpur city and other districts will be used as Corona Units when necessary in Rangpur division. Talking to BSS, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain members of the Armed Forces are assisting the civil administration in maintaining social distancing and ensuring quarantine of migrants to face the COVID-19 situation.
