On Saturday evening, the interim government led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a firm warning against any attempts to destabilise its activities. In a statement following a meeting of the Council of Advisers, the government noted growing obstacles, which it attributed to “defeated forces” and “foreign conspiracies.” It further declared that if its ability to function is hindered—particularly its reform efforts, judicial process, preparations for free and fair elections, and routine governance—it will be compelled to take decisions with the direct involvement of the people.
Professor Yunus reiterated the same day that the government would not extend its tenure beyond June next year. The interim government's commitment is clear: the next general election will be held either by December this year or by June next year, without delay or deviation.
However, we express deep concern over the recent developments. Since the banning of the Awami League activities various factions appear to be conspiring to create instability increasing the tension. These efforts to divide the nation and obstruct democratic transition must not be allowed to succeed.
The interim government, under the leadership of Nobel Laureate professor Muhammad Yunus, is not in power for its own sake. Rather, it holds a national responsibility during a critical transitional period. Its success depends on collective cooperation, especially from all political stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has threatened to reconsider its cooperation with the interim government unless a specific election roadmap is announced promptly, targeting December for polls. However, there should be a consensus that political stability hinges on a timely return to an elected government.
Besides, street protests have also become frequent, affecting daily life and the country’s economic activities. These ongoing demonstrations—organised by various groups—have caused widespread disruption, adding to the pressure on the interim government and eroding the environment necessary for its effective functioning.

Amid these challenges, we call upon all political parties and stakeholders to grant the interim government reasonable time and space to carry out its duties—particularly to implement essential reforms and ensure credible, inclusive elections. A national consensus is urgently needed to preserve stability, foster democratic transformation, and prevent the return of authoritarian rule.
Trust and confidence in leadership are crucial, and Dr. Muhammad Yunus commands that trust. His integrity, reputation, and commitment to the welfare of the people, we believes, will help the country come out of abyss. This interim administration does not seek to hold on to power through flattery or manipulation. Rather, it draws its legitimacy from the people.
The mission of Dr. Yunus remains clear: to secure the basic rights of every citizen—voting rights, democracy, rule of law, food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, and education. Despite global economic uncertainties, his government continues to take decisive steps to stabilise the economy and protect the interests of the common people.
At this critical juncture, peace-loving citizens must support Professor Muhammad Yunus and the interim government’s efforts to restore democratic order. Although some forces persist in sowing chaos to derail the upcoming elections, we believe the people will reject such attempts.
Ultimately, the faith Muhammad Yunus places in the people of Bangladesh will be reciprocated. His government has already implemented several pledges and is determined to continue serving the nation through this transitional phase. We hope, with unity, patience, and cooperation, the country will
overcome current challenges and hold a timely and
credible election.
Now more than ever, all stakeholders must prioritize national interest over partisan agendas. A fair and reformed electoral process is the need of the hour.
The time for aggressive posturing is over—the time for unity and responsible cooperation has arrived.
