Woman killed in clash in Narsingdi

A woman was killed in a violent clash between two groups over territorial control in Narsingdi's Raipura upazila.

Her family claims she died from gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred on Monday morning in a Char areas at Saidabad village under Srinagar union. At least five people were injured during the clash.

The dead was Momena Khatun, 50, wife of Akter Mia of Saidabad village. The injured include Nazimuddin, 45, Siyam, 16, Mahin, 20, Tajul Islam, and Rana, 20.

Locals said that for several years, there has been ongoing rivalry between residents of Saidabad and Balurchar areas over territorial dominance in Raipura’s char lands. Early Monday morning, members of Ershad group from Balurchar suddenly attacked Saidabad village, triggering a violent confrontation between the two sides. During the clash, Momena Khatun, a member of Hanif Master group from Saidabad, was killed.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and OPS), Sujon Chandra Sarkar, confirmed the incident and said that one woman was killed in the clash between villagers in Raipura’s char area.

 Police were deployed at the scene after receiving the report, and the situation has now been brought under control.
