Two friends lost their lives while hiking at Melkhum Trail of Mirsharai in Chattogram and three others were also injured in the incident.
The bodies were recovered on Wednesday noon from the trail located at Sonapahar area.
The deceased were identified as Aminul Islam Galib from Napiter Char village at Satkania upazila and Ibrahim Hridoy from Dhuniyalpara at Jatrabari in Dhaka. Both were students at Feni Polytechnic Institute.
The injured are Miraj, Raihan and Sayem. They were rescued in critical condition and are currently being treated at Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex.
According to reports, the group had set out on Tuesday morning to visit Melkhum trail. When they failed to return by Tuesday night, their relatives went searching on Wednesday morning.
At around 2:30 PM, locals found the three injured and Fire Service recovered the bodies of two missing friends.
Dr. Raju Singh, on duty at the health complex’s emergency department, confirmed that the injured have received initial treatment.
Meanwhile, Baraiyarhat Fire Service Senior Station Officer Zainal Abedin Titash stated that they responded promptly upon hearing about the five missing hikers and successfully carried out the rescue and recovery operation.
