Two young men have been arrested in Ishwardi, Pabna with a foreign-made pistol and ammunition during a special operation ahead of 15 August. The arrests were made around 1:30am on Friday by members of the Ambagan Police Outpost in the Naricha area of Ishwardi municipality.
The detainees were identified as Md. Shahan (23), son of Akram Hossain, and Riad Hossain (21), son of Abdur Razzak — both residents of the Bhuter Gari area. According to Ambagan Police Outpost In-Charge Afzal Hossain, the two are active members of the banned Chhatra League faction.
During a routine night patrol and security operation, the two were spotted riding an unregistered 125cc motorcycle near Shawon Tea Factory. Upon being stopped and questioned, police recovered a US-made pistol, a magazine, and four rounds of ammunition from their possession. The motorcycle was also seized.
Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station, Abdun Noor, stated that both regular and special drives are being conducted to maintain law and order. The arrested individuals will be sent to court, and police will apply for remand to investigate the source of the weapon and their intentions.
