Shakib begins bowling at nets

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has started bowling in the nets on Thursday ahead of the white-ball series against Afghanistan.

When the Tigers are engaged with the one-off Test match, Shakib is busy preparing himself in the nets at SBNCS after recovering from a finger injury.

The southpaw was spotted taking small run-ups while bowling, he was accompanied by spin-bowling coach Rangana Herath and physio Julian Celafote.

The ace all-rounder was sidelined for a period of six weeks, which forced him to miss the one-off Test match against Afghanistan. However, the all-rounder is eyeing for return to the field with the ODI series after Eid-al Adha.

The star cricketer is recovering quickly and the team management is hopeful that Shakib would be able to return for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan next month.

The 35-year-old immediately resumed his training and started working on his fitness after returning to the country. This is the first time he started to work with bowling.

"I have seen his X-Ray and it looked fine. We are hopeful that he will be able to take part in the upcoming ODI series," BCB's chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury told the media today.

The 36-year-old injured his finger during the second match of the three-match ODI series against Ireland in Chelmsford last month and was eventually ruled out for the ongoing lone Test against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh will play three ODIs and two T20Is against Afghanistan, starting on July.
