Amid a nationwide slowdown in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a commendable seminar was recently held in the remote village of Nowagaon, Mohanganj, Netrokona, focused on the role of rural communities in SDG implementation. The event was organised by the Abdur Rahman Jonokallyan Foundation and managed under the personal initiative of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Md. Mahbub Hasan Shahin.
Shahin presented the keynote, emphasising that the 17 interlinked global goals, adopted by the UN in 2015, aim to ensure a sustainable and equitable future by 2030. He highlighted the need for responsible leadership in achieving these goals.
Professor Dr. A.H.M. Kamal of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University was the chief guest. Other speakers included local government officials, educators, political leaders, and civil society members. Over 400 participants from various professional, social, and political backgrounds attended the event.
