BSS, GOPALGANJ: The local administration imposed section 144 in Gopalganj from 6am to 8pm on Monday, relaxing ongoing curfew during the period.
However, educational institutions and public examinations will be exempted from its scope.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter by issuing an office order on Saturday night.
To maintain law and order and ensure safety of lives and properties, the curfew in Gopalganj was extended for 10 more hours on Saturday following a 14-hour break.
Curfew was in force from 8:00pm Saturday night to 6:00am Sunday.
Earlier, through another order issued on Thursday night, the administration had relaxed the ongoing curfew from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday.
The district administration said that further decisions regarding the curfew will be taken after assessing the overall law and order situation in consultation with law enforcement agencies.
The curfew was initially imposed following an attack on a roadside meeting of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj. It was first enforced from 8:00 pm on July 16 to 6:00 pm on July 17.
During the second phase, the curfew was extended from 6:00 pm on July 17 to 11:00 am on July 18. After a three-hour pause (from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on July 18), it was re-imposed from 2:00 pm that day until further notice.
Later, in the third phase, the curfew was extended again from 8:00 pm on July 18 to 6:00 am on July 19.
