The Russian House in Dhaka celebrated Russia’s National Flag Day with a grand gala concert at the Rabindra Sarobar Amphitheatre on Friday, highlighting the cultural ties between Bangladesh and Russia.
The event brought together music, dance, and symbolic gestures to honour the Russian tricolour and its significance as a national emblem of identity and sovereignty. Speeches by a representative of the Dhaka City Corporation and Ekaterina Semenova, Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh, emphasised the importance of national symbols and the values they represent.
The cultural programme blended Russian and Bangladeshi traditions. Student ensemble Akash’Co performed classic Russian compositions, while popular Bangladeshi rock band Sonar Bangla Circus delivered a dynamic set featuring Russian pieces alongside original Bangla songs.
A key highlight of the evening was a 31-metre-long Russian flag carried through the audience, evoking an emotional response from spectators. Guests also had the opportunity to take photographs with Russian state symbols and received commemorative souvenirs, reinforcing the celebratory spirit.
Speaking at the event, Minister-Counsellor Semenova said, “This concert became not only a celebration of the Russian national flag but also a bridge of cultural interaction between our countries. We thank our Bangladeshi friends for their warm reception and joint celebration.”
The gala attracted a large audience, including members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, students, and approximately 8,000 local residents. Attendees praised the event for its well-organised programme and its role in strengthening cultural understanding and bilateral relations.
By combining music, symbolism, and cross-cultural participation, the Russian House successfully turned the National Flag Day celebration into a vibrant expression of friendship and cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.
