Rajshahi University (RU) has approved its annual budget of Taka 564.34 crore for the 2025-2026 financial year, placing the highest emphasis on salaries, allowances, and pensions.
Prof Akhter Hossain Mazumder, Administrator of the Public Relations Office, said that the budget was passed at a recently held meeting of the university syndicate, the institution’s top policy-making body.
Of the total allocation, Taka 422.97 crore, or 76.5 percent, has been set aside for salaries, allowances, and pensions of teachers, officers, and employees. Besides, Taka 15.03 crore has been earmarked for research to strengthen academic and scientific studies.
Special allocations have been made for purchasing modern instruments and equipment for laboratories to enhance students' practical learning opportunities. Funds have also been allotted for sports, internships, and increasing scholarships for meritorious students.
Prof Mazumder added that the new budget prioritises students' welfare and campus development. It includes allocations for setting up
water treatment plants at several locations on the campus to ensure a safe drinking water supply for students and staff.
Additionally, the budget will support the repairing of seven major campus roads and the purchase of two new buses for student transport facilities.
The RU administrator said the university authority is committed to improving academic facilities, research, and student services. He hoped that the budget would contribute to the overall progress of the university in the upcoming financial year.
The approved budget reflects the syndicate’s efforts to modernise the campus and academic environment while ensuring welfare for its students and staff.
