In Bogura, a dispute over money transactions linked to online gambling has led to the fatal stabbing of a young man, allegedly by a teenager.
The victim, Md. Russell (28), was killed on Wednesday night in the Chok Sorataj Sultanpur area of Sabgram Union under Bogura Sadar upazila.
Russell was the son of Md. Abu Bakkor and both he and the accused worked at separate private organisations in the town.
According to police and family sources, shortly after midnight on Thursday, a local teenager woke Russell from his sleep and called him outside. An argument broke out, during which the teenager stabbed Russell in the chest before fleeing. Relatives rushed him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept in the hospital morgue.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mostafa Monzur said initial investigation revealed the dispute arose from online gambling transactions. The detained teenager has confessed, and police have recovered the knife from a location he identified. Legal action is underway.
