Neer falls short of GM norm

Following the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, five promising Bangladeshi chess players (three men and two women) have been competing in three tournaments independently.

Wadifa Ahmed secured the Women's International Master (IM) title in the first tournament, while Manon Reja Neer achieved the IM norm in the second. Neer had high hopes of attaining the Grand Master (GM) norm in the third tournament, but this aspiration has not materialised.

After five rounds, Neer has accumulated only two points.

To achieve the GM norm, a minimum of seven points is required over nine rounds. Even if Neer wins all four remaining games, the total would only reach six points. Consequently, Neer will not secure the GM norm from this tournament.

Another IM, Fahad Rahman, still has a chance to improve his rating in the remaining games.

With three and a half points from five games, he needs another three and a half points from the remaining four games.

However, a single loss would eliminate his chance of achieving the norm.

FIDE Master Tahsin Tazwar Zia is also competing in Budapest. Having failed to achieve the norm in the previous two tournaments, it appears unlikely he will do so in this one either, as he has only one and a half points from five games.

Wadifa Ahmed is not participating in the third tournament.

Wallizer, with three points from five games, also has no chance of achieving norms.
