A middle-aged woman named Memjan Begum (40) was found dead in the Mathabhanga River near Daulatdiar in Chuadanga municipality. Locals recovered her body around 9:30 PM on Saturday and took her to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Her body bore multiple injuries to the head, face, and other areas.
Memjan, wife of Abdus Samad from Alokdia Union, had gone to the river that evening to dispose of waste from her bedridden mother-in-law, as she did regularly. She never returned. After a search, locals discovered her body in the river.
According to a relative, Lipi Khatun, Memjan had long suffered from epilepsy, and it is suspected she may have suffered a seizure, lost balance, and fallen into the river.
However, local police officer Khaledur Rahman said the injuries were suspicious, and a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.
