Men, women U-18 hockey teams leave for China

Bangladesh Men's and Women's junior hockey teams left for China las night (11.30 pm) to take part in the U-18 Asia Cup Hockey.

The youth Asia Cup Hockey tournament scheduled to get underway at Dazhou, China from July 3.

Bangladesh men's team slated in the Pool A along with Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong in the 11-team men's competition. The youngsters of Red and Green will face Hong Kong in the opening match on July 3.

In the eight teams women's Asia Cup, Bangladesh placed in the Pool A with power houses in Asian women hockey Japan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.

Bangladesh will face off the tough challenge of Japan when they will start their tournament campaign on July 4.

Two top teams from each of the groups will qualify for the next round and two top teams of the round will move into the final. 

Both the teams are going to China after two month preparation for the competition.

Bangladesh Men’s team are expereinced playing in the Asia Cup tournament but for the women’s team it is the first time they are going taking part in the Women’s Asia Cup.

Moududur Rahman Shuvo is the coach of Men’s team when Zahid Hossain Raju is women’s team coach who have been taking preparation for the competitions for last two months at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan (BKSP).

Shuvo, former national star, before to depart for China said that his target at least to earn the second place in the group stage to paly in the final - “Hosts China are in our group, so our first target is to be second in the group stage to move into the final.”

Meanwhile, the women’s team coach Zahid Hossain said that as it is the first time Under-18 women’s team will play in the Asia Cup, so as at first appearance they will try to do better result.
