Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) has named a gate ‘July 36 Gate’ in remembrance of the July Uprising.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam inaugurated the gate, constructed at a cost of Tk 1.36 crore, on Friday.
Treasurer Professor Dr A.T.M Mahbub-E-Elahi, deans of different faculties, directors of various departments, hall provosts, the registrar, heads of departments, teachers, students, officers, and staff were present at the event.
While inaugurating the gate, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Alimul Islam said, “‘July 36 Gate’ is not just a gate; it will stand as a witness to the struggles for freedom and democracy from generation to generation. The youth will draw inspiration from how the people of this country sacrificed their lives to protect their rights.”
Professor Dr Muhammad Rashed Al Mamun, Chief Engineer of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), said that the university’s main gate was constructed in the 2024–25 fiscal year at a cost of Tk 1.36 crore in response to the demands of students, teachers, officers, and staff.
During the July Uprising, students of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) stood as a barrier to protect the people of Sylhet from attacks by the ruling government. The nation will always remember those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. The gate stands as a testimony to these heroes who went beyond the ordinary. Whenever we see the gate before us, we will be reminded of these legends — the true heroes of the July Mass Uprising.
