Rajshahi University bursts with excitement as students gather to celebrate 'World Book Day,' a special occasion recognized by UNESCO. The campus is abuzz with a vibrant procession and engaging book reading program, all organized by the art and literature group, Gyanchakra.

Under the spirited banner of 'Ignite the light of knowledge, drive away corruption,' the procession winds its way through the university's Paris Road, culminating at the Shaheed Minar. Here, students eagerly immerse themselves in the joy of reading, fostering a love for books and creativity.

Mahir Islam, a student of the Arabic department, shares, "Gyanchakra is our haven for art, literature, and knowledge. We gather weekly to explore diverse topics through books, honoring the wisdom of great minds worldwide. Today's colorful festivities celebrate the essence of 'Book Day.'"

Hossain, another student, expresses gratitude for Gyanchakra's role in inspiring a passion for reading. Through their programs, students explore into the lives of philosophers, poets, and writers, discovering the treasures hidden within their works.

World Book Day, established by UNESCO in 1995, traces its origins to Spain, where it has been celebrated since 1923. Vicente Clavel Andrés proposed the idea of a Book Day to honour Miguel de Cervantes, the creator of the first modern novel in history, Don Quixote de La Mancha.

UNESCO's recognition in 1995 transformed this local celebration into a global phenomenon, spreading the joy of reading across the world every April 23rd.
