Jamaat leader slams massive stone loot

"Once they used stones to kill people, now they’ve devoured all the stones of Sylhet," remarked Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka North, highlighting alleged large-scale corruption and looting in Sylhet's stone trade.

Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and prayer session marking the second death anniversary of Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, organised by Islami Chhatra Shibir in Laxmipur, Dr Karim criticised the authorities for allowing what he termed as the ‘plundering of Sylhet’s resources’. “If their hunger is so great, they’ll swallow the whole of Bangladesh next,” he said. “Previously, they used stones to kill people at Mitford; now they’re consuming Sylhet's entire supply.”

He further alleged that billions of takas’ worth of stones have already been smuggled out in thousands of trucks, while the administration remains spineless and ineffective. “They’re now pretending to search for more stones, despite having stood by during the looting,” he added.

Dr Karim concluded by emphasising that the future of Bangladesh belongs to the ‘July warriors’, and pledged not to hand the country over to anyone by any means.

The event was presided over by Laxmipur Shibir President Farid Uddin and moderated by Secretary Abdul Awal Hamdur. Several local and central Jamaat leaders were also present.
