Sports enthusiasts and residents of Rangamati have demanded the establishment of a Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) regional training centre in Rangamati district town. They made the call through a human chain, protest rally, and memorandum submitted to the Sports Adviser.

The event took place on Tuesday morning in front of the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner’s office under the banner of the people of Rangamati and local sports lovers.

Speakers said that during the current interim government’s tenure, a decision was made to set up a BKSP regional centre in Rangamati. Around 40 acres of land were selected in Jhagarabil Mouza, Tonchongya Para, and a feasibility study was recently conducted. However, a vested group is allegedly trying to move the project to Kaptai upazila.

They emphasised that Rangamati has long contributed to national sports, producing many talented athletes. Therefore, the training centre must be established in the district town.

The protest was chaired by Professor Ronjyoti Chakma and attended by local leaders including Dipon Talukder Dipu, Babul Ali Talukder, and others. A memorandum was later submitted to the Sports Adviser and BKSP Director General.
