Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s much-anticipated spy thriller War 2 has entered its second Friday on a weak note, struggling to cross the Rs 250 crore mark despite strong pre-release expectations.
Early estimates show the film collected Rs 4 crore net across all languages on Day 9, taking its domestic total to Rs 208.25 crore. The Hindi version has contributed Rs 153.65 crore, the Telugu version Rs 52.7 crore, and the Tamil version Rs 1.7 crore. While Jr NTR’s loyal fan base has supported the Telugu collections, overall numbers have seen a steady decline from the film’s opening Friday, which had earned Rs 57.85 crore.
According to Sacnilk, domestic occupancy on Friday stood at 9.83%, with morning shows at 5.70% and night shows improving slightly to 15.12%. The film crossed Rs 200 crore domestically in just over a week, but it has yet to meet the lofty benchmarks set by its prequel, War (2019), which starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff.
Directed by Ayan Mukerji, War 2 has grossed Rs 243.85 crore in India and an estimated Rs 70.15 crore overseas, bringing its worldwide total to Rs 314 crore. With a reported budget of Rs 400 crore, the film will need a stronger box office performance to break even.
The movie, part of Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, also features Kiara Advani in a pivotal role. It concludes with a post-credits sequence teasing the next installment, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, and a cameo by Bobby Deol, scheduled for release in December.
With stiff competition from Param Sundari, releasing on 29 August, War 2 faces a critical week ahead to boost its collections and justify its blockbuster ambitions.
