Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain on Monday said whether the Hajj registration deadline will be extended or not will be known on Tuesday.
A decision in this regard may come following a meeting with the Saudi authorities scheduled for Tuesday, he said while speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat.
As per the Saudi roadmap, the deadline for Hajj registration ended on Sunday (October 12).
This year, the holy Hajj is expected to be held on May 26, subject to moon sighting.
Bangladesh’s Hajj quota for this year is 127,198 pilgrims.
“We have a meeting with the Saudi government on Tuesday (October 14). They may ask us how many pilgrims have registered and how many vouchers have been issued. Based on that, we are hopeful that the deadline might be extended, subject to their approval. We will request them to allow more time,” he added.
He also mentioned that letters have been sent to Hajj agencies asking them to inform by 5 pm today how many pilgrims are still waiting to register but couldn’t input data into the system.
“If we get this information today, we will present it at tomorrow’s meeting to show how many are still in the queue for registration,” he said.
