A special law and order meeting was held in Gurudaspur on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming boat race competition scheduled to take place at Chalan Beel on 12 September. The meeting was organised by the Gurudaspur Upazila administration to ensure strict security measures during the event.
It was announced that from 12:00 pm on the day of the race, all vehicle movement over the Khubjipur Iron Bridge will be restricted. Arrangements will be made to park motorbikes and other vehicles at the Khubjipur field. Only authorised boats taking part in the competition will be allowed on the Gurudaspur section of the beel.
Distinguished guests at the event will include Health Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khondokar Azim Ahmed NDC, and Natore Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen. The meeting was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fahmida Afroze.
Also present were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Asadul Islam, Upazila Health Officer Dr Md Almas Ali, OC Asmaul Haque, Upazila Engineer Milon Mia, PIO Aminur Rashid, along with local officials, union chairmen, freedom fighters, teachers, and journalists.
It was decided that police, army, intelligence personnel, Ansar, village police, and volunteers will be deployed. Locals expressed joy and appreciation, calling the event a celebration of rural tradition.
