Four members of inter-district robbery gang arrested in Ctg

Lohagara police station has arrested four members of an inter-district robbery gang in a special drive by the police in the Chunati area of Lohagara Upazila of Chittagong. Two locally made firearms, bullets, sharp weapons, cash from the robbery and a single cabin pickup used in the robbery were recovered from them.

This was announced in a press conference at the District Superintendent of Police Office at Gate No. 2, Nasirabad on Friday. Police said that based on a secret information, Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Arifur Rahman led by SI Kamal Hossain and a joint force conducted the drive. Last Thursday morning, a suspicious vehicle was stopped during a check post search in front of the Chunati Range Forest Officer's office on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway, and the members of the robbery gang tried to escape. Later, the four were arrested in a chase. The arrested are Kashem (52), Shadequr Rahman (31), Md. Kamal (35) and Kefayet Hossain (24). During the search, 2 country-made firearms, 4 rounds of 12 bore cartridges, 1 ramda, 1 spring knife and 2 sharp knives, 1 iron scissors, 2 axes, 4 mobile phone sets and 1 portable hard disk, cash of 16 thousand taka and 824 taka in small coins and the single cabin pickup used in the robbery (Chatt Metro-11-8853) were recovered from them.

Police said that during initial interrogation, the arrested confessed to their involvement in a robbery incident that took place in the Fakirpara area of Patiya police station in Chittagong. They were taking the looted money and goods to Chakaria in Cox's Bazar after committing the robbery there.

 There are at least 11 cases against the arrested Abul Kashem, including weapons, robbery, attempted murder and torture of women and children. There are also multiple cases against the other three accused.

  The operation to arrest seven more absconding robbers involved in the incident is ongoing.
