Five killed in road crashes in two dists

At least five people were killed in road accidents in Chuadanga and Munshiganj districts on Friday evening.

Three persons were killed and five others injured, including a six-month-old infant, in a head-on collision between an oil truck and a battery-powered easy bike in Jafarpur area on the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah road in Chuadanga district Fridaay evening, reports Chuadanga correspondent.

One of the three deceased was easy bike driver Ariful Islam, 35, son of Nur Mohammad. He was a resident of Joyrampur Colonypara in Damurhuda upazila in the district. The identities of other two deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured include five people, among them a six-month-old child, all of whom are currently undergoing treatment at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. 

The accident occurred around 7:00pm near the Jafarpur Forest Department area, according to eyewitnesses.

The oil truck was coming from Chuadanga toward Jhenaidah while the easy bike was going to Chuadanga town, they said, adding that the two vehicles collided directly, resulting in catastrophic damage.

One male passenger, approximately 40 years old, died instantly at the scene. 

Upon receiving the news, local residents and members of the Fire Service responded promptly, rescuing the injured and transporting them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

A female passenger, around 50, succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival at the hospital. 

The easy bike driver Ariful also died after receiving medical care for some time.

Two young men were killed after a bus hit their motorbike at Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj district on Friday evening, said local sources. 

The deceased were identified as Mahmudul Hasan, 31, son of Abdul Mannan from Bohori village in Matlab South upazila of Chandpur and Mehedi Hasan, 30, a resident of Kashimpur village under the same upazila.

According to witnesses and police, the Cumilla-bound of ‘Tisha Plus Paribahan’ from Dhaka hit the motorbike from behind on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Madhya Baushia area around 6PM, causing the rider and pillion passenger to fall and collide with another bus in front of them.

Mehedi died on the spot while injured Mahmudul was taken to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

Gazaria Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Anwar Alam Azad said the bus was seized with the help of locals but the driver and helper managed to flee.

A case was filed with Gazaria Police Station.
