A devastating fire broke out early Monday morning at Konabari wholesale market in Gazipur city, destroying 16 shops and their goods.
The blaze started around 5:30 AM. On information, four fire service units rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after nearly two and a half hours of intense firefighting. Business owners estimate the losses to be over Tk two crore.
Saiful Islam, Station Officer of Konabari Fire Station, said the fire rapidly spread throughout the market area. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire likely started due to an electrical short circuit. The exact extent of the damage will be confirmed after further investigation.
