Rupganj Correspondent: A massive fire broke out at Shabnam Vegetable Oil Mills Ltd, located in the Tarabo Municipality area under Rupganj Police Station in Narayanganj district. The blaze started at approximately 3:30 AM on Monday in the factory’s oil production plant. After around an hour and a half of intense effort, firefighters managed to bring the flames under control.
Upon receiving the alert, five firefighting units from Demra, Kanchpur, and Narayanganj Zone-2 rushed to the scene and worked to contain the fire. With the assistance of Rupganj Police and Industrial Police, the fire was fully brought under control by 5:00 AM. Initial reports suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit.
Major Ashiqur Rahman, the factory’s manager, stated that immediate action was taken by security staff and the fire service, which helped prevent any major casualties. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed.
The factory employs around 320 workers, including 300 labourers (290 male and 10 female) and 20 staff. As most workers were not present at the time, a serious tragedy was likely averted.
A fire service official reported that the presence of oil-based materials caused the flames to spread rapidly. However, coordinated efforts helped prevent further destruction. An investigation may be launched to determine the exact cause and financial loss.
