Police recovered the body of Rafiqul Islam, 48, an accounts officer at a local feed mill, from a flat in the Konabari area of Gazipur on Sunday.
The victim, a resident of Fulbari village in Tangail’s Dhanbari upazila, had been living alone on the fourth floor of a five-storey building in Ataur Market. Police said that he was likely murdered on Saturday night.
“There were sharp weapon injuries on his head and right thigh. The body was found lying on the bed,” confirmed Abu Naser Al-Amin, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Konabari Zone under Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
Family members claim that the murder was pre-planned and have demanded a thorough investigation.
Authorities concerned have launched an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing likely witnesses. The brutal killing has raised concern among locals, who are calling for swift justice and improved residential security.
