The Ministry of Education has temporarily suspended Professor Narayan Chandra Nath, former secretary of Chattogram Education Board.
This information was given in an office order signed by Siddique Jobayer, senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education department on Monday.
The office order said that Narayan Chandra Nath surrendered on June 17 in the case of forgery of his son's exam results and applied for bail. After hearing, the court rejected his bail and sent him to jail.
Therefore, he has been temporarily suspended from June 17 as per the Government Service Act, only receiving food allowance during temporary suspension.
Earlier, Narayan Chandra Nath served as the Controller of Examinations and Secretary at the Chattogram Education Board. In 2023, while he was the secretary, his son participated in the HSC examination. After the results were published, allegations of fraud against him arose. Later, Department of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) investigated the matter. After the allegations were raised, he was posted as Director of Chattogram Region of the DSHE on July 9 last year. Besides, on September 17 last year, the directive signed by Shatarupa Talukder, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Disciplinary Division of Department of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), said that the investigation has found evidence of fraud allegations against Narayan. Therefore, disciplinary action, including a case has been taken against him as per the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018 and instructions have been given to cancel the results of his son. Earlier, he was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on September 23 last year. A case was filed on January 21 with Panchlaish Police Station against four individuals, including Narayan for allegedly manipulating HSC exam results to award his son GPA-5.
The other accused are Narayan’s son Nakshatra Debnath, former senior system analyst of the education board Kibria Masud Khan and former board chairman Professor Mustafa Kamrul Akhtar.
The case was filed by then-board secretary Professor AKM Shamsu Uddin Azad.
