UNB, Cox’s Bazar: Over 800 Dhaka-bound passengers were left stranded on Sunday afternoon after the engine failure of ‘Cox’s Bazar Express’ train at Islamabad station in Eidgaon upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Mohammad Golam Rabbani, manager of the Cox’s Bazar Railway Station, said the train departed from the station around 12:45pm, 15 minutes behind schedule, with more than 800 passengers on board.
The train experienced a sudden engine failure upon reaching the Islamabad station, he said adding that a motor in the engine burned out which caused the breakdown.
He mentioned that there is no relief train or loco shed facility at Cox’s Bazar station.

“We have informed the authorities in Chattogram, and a relief train with a replacement engine has been dispatched from there to Islamabad station,” said the station manager.
ABM Kamruzzaman, divisional manager of Chattogram Railway, said the train will resume its journey toward Dhaka once the damaged engine is replaced.
