Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia has announced the inauguration of e-rickshaw training for three-wheeled low-speed battery-powered rickshaw drivers in the areas under the jurisdiction of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

After training, e-rickshaw drivers will also receive a driving license to operate these rickshaws.

The programme was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Nagar Bhaban Auditorium. Under the management of the Transport Department of Dhaka South City Corporation, e-rickshaw training has started in the first phase from July 22-31 at the respective community centers of 5 regional offices.

DSCC Information Officer Jobayer Hossain said that 150 trainers have been appointed to conduct the training, who will conduct the training activities in various phases until October.

In the first phase, a total of 4,500 e-rickshaw drivers will be trained. The trainee rickshaw drivers will be provided with honorarium and food.

During the inauguration, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia said that due to the uncontrolled and unsafe movement of battery-powered rickshaws, city life has come to a standstill due to traffic jams and the normal activities of citizens have been put at risk.

He said the government has taken the initiative to operate e-rickshaws in the Dhaka City Corporation area, which will not only reduce traffic congestion but also protect city residents from unexpected accidents.

Rickshaw drivers who undergo training for just 50 taka will receive a driving license. The e-rickshaw sector will be brought under control in phases.
