A thirteen-member Chinese delegation, led by Sun Yong, Vice-Governor of Anhui Province, China, met with Dhaka University (DU) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed at the VC’s meeting room yesterday to discuss avenues of academic and research collaboration.
The delegation comprised Zhou Mingjie, Fang Jinsong, Yang Xiaolin, Hou Qijie, Wang Haixia, Yang Zhen, Liu Yang, Zhai Rongsheng, Wang Mingxin, Liu Chunyang, Wang Zhengqiao and Chen Shansheng.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on launching joint research initiatives in the fields of science and technology, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. They also stressed the importance of teacher and student exchanges as well as cultural programmes between DU and different Chinese universities.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed highlighted the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and China, noting that educational and cultural partnerships could further strengthen bilateral ties. “The historical friendly relationship between Bangladesh and China has been prevailing for many years. To keep this momentum, more collaborative academic and research programmes are essential,” he said.
He expressed optimism that such cooperation would create opportunities for innovation, enhance institutional capacity, and allow students and faculty members to benefit from global exposure.
The Chinese delegation, on their part, emphasized their willingness to deepen engagement with DU and promote mutual understanding through people-to-people contact and educational exchange.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to explore formal agreements to facilitate joint academic ventures, cultural exchanges, and research initiatives that could contribute to technological advancement and human resource development in both countries.
