Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a special cleaning and mosquito control drive on Saturday as part of a month-long programme to commemorate the student-led mass uprising in July and August.

The campaign, conducted in the Abhay Das Lane-Narinda-Wari adjacent areas, was attended by Corporation Administrator Md. Shahjahan Miah and Secretary of the Local Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi as the chief guest.

More than six hundred employees from the DSCC's Waste Management Department and Health Department, as well as local people, participated in the campaign, which began at 6 am. As part of the cleanliness drive, drains, sewers, and sidewalks are cleaned of dirt and mosquito repellent is applied.

In addition, as part of the public awareness programme, a public awareness rally was held with the participation of local residents.

Briefing reporters during the cleanliness programme, Md. Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Secretary of the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, said, "The biggest need for the cleanliness of the city is everyone’s involvement."

Work done by the city corporation or the government alone is not sustainable.

Noting that the rainy season is challenging for the City Corporation, the secretary said that the campaign will continue to resolve waterlogging and control dengue.

Expressing optimism that dengue control will be possible through the coordinated efforts of city residents, DSCC, and the media, the administrator said that the positive results of the past special cleanliness drive have already started to be visible.

Dhaka South City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Zahirul Islam, Secretary Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, along with all department heads and local leaders were present at the cleanliness drive.
