Religious Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain on Wednesday said that Madrasa education is a specialized education system. It must be maintained. This education system cannot be allowed to collapse in the name of ultra-modernity.
‘The uniqueness of this education system must be maintained. The past traditions of the madrasa education system must be brought back’ he said.
He came up with these remarks while delivering a keynote address at a seminar titled 'Alia Madrasa Education Stream for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Ways to Overcome' at the IDEB Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday afternoon. The seminar was organized by the Bangladesh Madrasa Chhatra Kalyan Parishad.
The religious adviser said, "The Aliya Madrasa education system has been making significant contributions to the practice of Islamic knowledge, the development of values, and the spread of Islamic thought throughout the Indian subcontinent for ages. Despite some shortcomings and deviations, the contribution of this education system is huge."
He said that for the 86 years between the establishment of the Kolkata Aliya Madrasa and the establishment of the Deoband Madrasa, it was the scholars who educated in Aliya Madrasa lit the torch of knowledge in India. Even today, many scholars and ulama who received their education from Alia Madrasa continue to play significant roles at various levels of society.
The religious adviser said that the movement must continue against those who want to suppress the Madrasa education system. Everyone must be vigilant so that fascism does not re-emerge.
Highlighting the importance of madrasa education, Dr. Khalid said that madrasa education was suppressed for the past sixteen years.
The National University was positive about introducing honors in general subjects, but its approach was negative about the subjects such as Islamic Studies, Arabic Literature, and Islamic History.
This clause has been removed from the National University. Now the Madrasa education system will be improved.
The event was presided over by Maulana Zainul Abedin, Adviser Principal of Bangladesh Madrasa Student Welfare Council. The main discussant at the seminar was Professor Dr. Md. Shamsul Alam, Vice Chancellor of Arabic University.
