Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has taken full responsibility for urban healthcare activities from Tuesday, with the aim of making primary healthcare more accessible, equitable and of high quality for city residents.
DNCC spokesperson Md. Jobayer Hossain confirmed the matter on Tuesday.
He said that since 1998, urban maternity hospitals, primary healthcare centers and satellite centers have been operating in DNCC through the Urban Primary Health Care Services Delivery Project (Phase 2) under the Local Government Department.
Under the project, various types of healthcare services were ensured for citizens through 6 urban maternity hospitals, 30 primary health centers, and 60 satellite centers in 21 wards.
Jobayer Hossain said that since the project's term ended on June 30, this healthcare programme will be run directly under the supervision and management of DNCC from July 1.
It is expected that these healthcare services will now be more sustainable, transparent, and more accessible to citizens under the City Corporation's own management.
Healthcare is a fundamental right of citizens. Therefore, in this new journey to ensure primary healthcare, there will be no shortage of services provided as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Local Government and in collaboration with stakeholders.
